New Zealand artist Jane Galloway’s creativity spans almost five decades beginning at Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland then running a bag manufacturing business followed by a career as a landscape painter, greeting card designer, graphic print designer and lately, full circle back to her first love of abstract painting.
Some of her output explores the disciplines of colour mixing and composition but she also embraces experimentation and play to give intuition a voice. The final works are not planned. The painting process is about letting go of the outcome and taking risks to see what emerges.
Jane’s current style can be seen as grid structures disrupted by looser marks and shapes. Her most recent works experiment with pushing differences of control and looseness; structure and the inner world; material and essence.

I have painted the Raglan and Coromandel areas extensively over the past 20 years. At present these representational works are all the originals that remain. I am now exploring abstraction in painting which I began at art school decades ago.
The limited edition landscape painting reproductions will continue to be available until sold out with some editions soon to end.

A big part of each year is spent designing images which I sell as limited edition prints through Palm Prints - a partnership begun in 2003 with photographer Stuart Mackenzie where he does the printing and "techie stuff", leaving me free to design and paint.
Palm Prints produces photographic prints as well as my ranges of digital, hand-drawn and painted images. My passion for the natural world, for conservation and for art and design history can be seen in all my work.

Goodbye to one of my favourite Elam tutors, Don Binney
These prints are composites of my watercolour paintings of New Zealand flowers. Each plant began as a separate painting, photographed, cut out to create a layer in Photoshop and assembled. This series looks at the way plants are speaking to us about environmental stressors. Plants often flower more profusely when their survival is challenged.
